Three Modern Devices That Can Cause Pain

Posted October 29, 2011 by Mike583

Technology has its negatives as well as its positives.  As many chiropractor Ocean County clinics report, many technologically advanced devices are causing us chronic pain and increasing our need for chiropractic care. These three devices can cause problems ranging from pain to irreversible damage.  Exercise caution and speak with your chiropractor if your pain becomes significant.

  1. Cell phones. Aside from research alleging that radiation can be damaging to the brain, texting all day while slumping over your cell can cause back, neck and shoulder problems.  Sit upright with the phone in front of you, and stretch out if you experience pain.
  2. Keyboards. Typing all day is known to cause carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition resulting from damage to the “tunnels” in the hands through which nerves run.  While its prevalence in heavy keyboard users is exaggerated, carpal tunnel syndrome causes chronic pain and distortion of the hands.
  3. Computer screens. It’s important to set your screen to the correct height and angle for your height to encourage good posture.  Poor posture and slumping can cause back or neck pain.  Ergonomic chairs and keyboards can also help with this.
